The move to Hawaii

We arrived in Hawaii on January 7, 2008. We have been here 6 months and we are loving it! It has taken some adjustment- mostly for the kids in school. There are many things that are different from Utah like the schools are several buildings that are connected by walk ways. So when the kids walk from building to building they get to be outside - not so bad except if it is raining. The kids also had to get used to eating rice everyday at school. Not only for lunch but also with breakfast. They really like rice here, and hardly ever eat potatoes so that has been really different. We definitely eat more fish here too. We have a neighbor that keeps us supplied with fresh Mahi-Mahi that he has caught and we love it!

We love our ward here! So many friendly and helpful people full of the Aloha spirit. Matt was called to work with the Young Men in Scouts. Becky was called to teach Relief Society. Kevin was called to be 1st Counselor in the Deacons. We have had the opportunity to have the sister missionaries over several times. We love the spirit they bring into our home. It is wonderful having more opportunities to share the gospel and we feel that is one of the main reasons why we are here.

Some of you might be wondering why we moved to Hawaii. We seem to get asked that question a lot. Besides wanting to live in paradise all year round, Matt and Steve started a company called Koko Resorts. This is a vacation rental management company that rents condos in Waikiki on a nightly/weekly basis (similar to hotels). So if you know of anyone that is coming to Hawaii have them check out our website at www.KokoResorts.com and we can find them a great place to stay in Waikiki (Honolulu).

Becky found a job teaching math and science at a Catholic school in Honolulu. She loves the students she teaches and really enjoys the faculty at the school. The school is fairly small so it has been a lot easier getting to know each student individually. School starts at the end of July so summer break is really short. We are not complaining because the schools give 2 weeks off in October, 3 weeks off for Christmas break and 3 weeks off for spring break. Having breaks through out the year is not only appreciated by the students but by the teachers as well.
